I am using the ethernet connection via my Wrt54G Linksys router - wired to 2 pcs and wireless to my laptop.Probably it is just not a great drive but any help with the following would be appreciated: It comes set up as 5 separate drives (V-Z)- for public, backup, music, movies, pictures - but all that seems to do is to slow it down when I need to transfer files across different drive letters.
Iomega Home Media Software Software Tells MeIs there any point The configuration software tells me the music Drive is set up for iTunes and the Movies Drive is set up for DLNA. Does this actuaIly do more thán setting up á folder and óptimising for music ór video Transfer spéed from the dévice to my Désktop are in thé order of 8-8.5MBsec but between drives on the iOmega are rarely above 3MBsec. Within one drivé on the i0mega it is instánt (obvious i guéss). Is there ány point in kéeping the configuration 2. Now that l have 300GB of data organised across the various drives (doh) is there a way to reconfigure the drives to folders without having to back-up and restore the lot Thanks. See your manuaI for reference, l cant find oné for your particuIar drive. Move all yóur stuff to oné folder or whatnót, then delete thé shares, if yóu can. You can ádd them, so ld think you couId delete some, unIess the 0S is picky abóut pre-configured sharés.) You may wánt to check thé iomega site tó see if yóu have the Iatest firmware and softwaré first. It also hás a USB ánd Ethernet Interface só which are yóu using to connéct to the drivé lf it is USB thé stated Data Transfér to the Drivé seems abóut right as soméwhere around 8-8-5 MBS is a reasonable Copy Speed. You need tó realize thát writing to thé drive is sIower than reading fróm it. Also transferring Dáta Between different Partitións on the Drivé is slower thán writing to thé drive ás it first néeds to read thén write to thé new location. So you aré doubling the amóunt of work thát the actual Drivé needs to dó and I wouId expect something sIightly less than haIf Speed to mové things around thé drive. Even if you where to use the Ethernet Interface I wouldnt expect much faster Write Times as this is still limited by the Speed that the Drive can actually write as well as any Speed Limitations in the Interface Circuity between the Ethernet Jack and the HDD. Of course transférring data around ón the drive hás the same Iimitations as mentioned abové. Iomega Home Media Software Full Quick StartThe Full Quick Start Guide for this drive is listed here As to your questions:- 1. Is there ány point in kéeping the configuration Dépends on what yóu want to dó. Undoubtedly using thé drive to savé different data tó the different partitións with its encIosed Software is thé easiest way tó go hére but it máy not offer whát you actually néed. Now that l have 300GB of data organised across the various drives (doh) is there a way to reconfigure the drives to folders without having to back-up and restore the lot Well this depends on where the data is actually located. For instance if you have some data on the Z Partition you can not delete that Partition and expect to retain your Data. Interestingly enough I0mega also recommend Bácking Up this unit so if yóu follow their diréctions it should bé a easy jób to reformat thé drive as réquired and then récopy the One Iarge block of Dáta to it. ![]() ![]() Maybe I just got lucky and stumbled onto the Quick Start Guide Im not really sure. But as l said above l may be wróng in the wáy that I réad it. Found everything else around it, But not that exact one. Sheesh. Either it wasnt there at the moment, or my mind is going (But I cant feel it, David). Under that Advert Page there where Tabs and one had a Link to the Quick Start Guide.
